History

Adam Bourke started Bourkies Bakehouse in 1989 with a staff of 12 after learning the trade.

Originally the business was located in the shop front where the business is today then in 1997 the shop expanded next door to the size it is today. This expansion allowed us to seat 26 people inside and 12 outside on Woodend's warmer days!

Our product line has expanded over the years to the full range we have available today. This requires us to employ a staff of 27 people, all of whom live in the district.

Animated Bakers

On a visit to Dusseldorf, Germany to a bakers trade show, Adam saw the animated characters similar to those Myer Melbourne uses every year at Christmas time. He decided he could make something similar and spent 6 months putting it all together in his shed at home.

The characters shown baking bread and pastries are a favourite amongst our younger customers!
