Woodend is a pleasant 50 minutes drive or train trip from Melbourne CBD, making it a popular destination for day trippers.
The bakery enjoys the best corner position in the main street. It also has the advantage of a car park at the rear. It is a popular meeting and resting point for those participating in events such as the MAD bike ride. From the outdoor tables customers can see Mt Macedon, where some beautiful private gardens are open regularly to the public.
Hanging Rock is only 5 minutes away by car and easily accessible by bike. It hosts the annual Harvest Picnic, Vintage Car Rally and the well attended race meetings on New Year's Day and Australia Day.
Woodend has great specialty shops and eateries and is home to the award winning Holgates Brewhouse. It also has one of the best all abilities children's playgrounds in Victoria, a lovely walking track, and a market held on the third Sunday of the month (excluding winter).
To the west of the town is Trentham where one can take in the Falls, fossick through the Renovators Goldmine, or enjoy a Sunday session of live music at the revitalised Cosmopolitan Hotel or Noah's Ark Inn at Tylden.
The Macedon Ranges is also home to many excellent wineries and plant nurseries.
